As at home, people here take the opportunity to combine public holidays with getting together and having a good time, especially when the weather is so unseasonably hot as it has been here and also, I believe, as it has been in the UK. In Australia that generally seems to involve large, outdoor, extended family gatherings in public parks and open spaces which are set up specifically for this purpose with built in, coin operated, public use gas barbecue tables and plenty of picnic tables set up under canopies for protection from the sun.
Emma and I spent our Easter Friday and Saturday travelling around Williamstown and it’s gardens, parks and beaches, eating fish and chips, and ice cream and enjoying the high temperatures along with the barbecuing and picnicking locals.
We were invited over to Alison and her family’s house for an Easter Sunday barbecue along with some of her other friends which made it a really special day for us to be included in a family event like this,we were made to feel very much at home. Beer, sausages, plenty of fresh fruit and veg, music, an egg hunt for all the kids, torment for the poor cat, a trip to the park when it rained and back to the house for chips and games. A really great day with great people.
Easter Monday wasn’t quite so hot and Emma and I took to the roads to investigate a different direction and traveled not too far out to the West to see Werribee Gorge and then on to visit the town of Daylesford for a walk around the lake and a trip through the town for some tourist shopping.
No pictures, just a really nice relaxing weekend as we draw our visit slowly to a close.
