“To the glory of God and in memory of Australia’s sons, 1914-1918. Death cannot rob them of their glory nor time efface the memory of their gallant deeds.”
– Tablet on the monument
Mount Macedon is the name given to the local village so for reasons of accuracy we went to visit the Mount Macedon Memorial Cross or Cameron Memorial Cross, which is located on summit of the mountain. Dedicated in 1935 it’s a huge memorial to fallen Australian soldiers of the Great War. Originally built using a steel interior framework, the current cross is made from a reinforced concrete core clothed in ceramic tile. Hugely impressive in another stunning location surrounded by a formal garden enclosed within a forest of eucalyptus trees.
