Newport Lakes Reserve 31-3-19

A lake carries you into recesses of feeling otherwise impenetrable.

– William Wordsworth

This fantastic site is on our doorstep, we have views over Pavey Park from our home and just beyond it is the Newport Lakes Reserve.  The Reserve is a sanctuary created out of a derelict Bluestone quarry site.  The work on the transformation of Pavey Park and the Lakes Reserve was started in the 1970’s after money was raised from using parts of the location as a landfill site.  The reserve officially opened in 1995 and is now an example of the habitat present across parts of Australia before urbanisation but not specifically representing species from this exact location.  The lake and the vegetation around it, provides a habitat for swans, eurasian coots, blue fairy-wrens and pacific black ducks, along with many other reptiles, amphibians and mammals.
