Scienceworks

The most beautiful thing we can experience is the mysterious. It is the source of all true art and science.

– Albert Einstein

Just around the corner from where we’re staying is the old Spotswood Pumping Station where the surrounding industrial site has been transformed in to the Melbourne Museums Scienceworks.  The original steam powered pumping station’s equipment now also forms part of the museum’s scope.

As an attraction for all adults and children it contains fantastic presentation elements including a Museum of the Moon, Beyond Perception – a sound and light immersive exploration of sensation, there’s also the Planetarium, the Lightning Room as well as a huge collection of interactive and experiment based exhibits which allow you to test yourself and your physics, chemistry and perception abilities.  Another great day out and we were still finding more and more things to do as the doors were closing.  Emma and Caitlin also got involved with a 45 minute VR Moonbase experience much to the annoyance of Alastair and Madeline as they were too young to have a go – they got ice creams and a trip to the adventure playground instead.
